Welcome, Bishop Ustrzycki!
Bishop Matthew Ustrzycki is the first of our esteemed visitors during our 60th Anniversary year at St. Ann’s Parish. Bishop (then Monsignor) Ustrzycki was the first Hamilton diocesan priest to serve as pastor at St. Ann’s: he arrived in 1979 after the Oblates of Mary Immaculate moved to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on Mohawk Road. Bishop Ustrzycki served as pastor here for six years, and was responsible for significant renovations to the church building, including the present sanctuary.
In 1985 he was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of Hamilton, an office in which he faithfully served until his retirement in 2007. He continues to lead a very active retirement in our diocese and is of invaluable help to Bishop Crosby. We are pleased to welcome him back to St. Ann’s Parish this weekend.
From the Pastor’s Desk
It’s good to be back after a two-week sabbatical down south, and nice to see that the parish runs perfectly well in the pastor’s absence! I appreciate all that Father Mark did during a busy time while I was away.
The post-Christmas lull in a parish never lasts for long, and soon we will be gearing up for Lent. Please take note of the Lenten Parish Mission, beginning one month from now. It takes place right at the start of the Lent, a great opportunity for spiritual renewal in a season designed precisely for that. I am excited about our two Mission preachers and the message that they will bring to us. Stay tuned for more information, but set aside the time now and plan to attend as much of the Parish Mission as you are able.

Ecological Justice Now
The economic and spiritual well being of every person -- that's the sweeping mission of Development and Peace, our church's solidarity movement in Canada. "The cry of the earth and the cry of the poor are one," said the Canadian Catholic Bishops. This year D&P launches a five-year campaign to connect and heal the most pressing issues our planet faces. You'll be hearing more in the weeks to come about how we at St. Ann's can be involved.
SEMINARY EDUCATION COLLECTION
“Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above.” (James 1:17)
The annual Diocesan collection in support of the seminarians of the Diocese of Hamilton takes place next weekend, the weekend of February 5. A seminarian is someone who is studying and preparing to be a priest. Please remember in your prayers the 16 seminarians who are preparing for priestly service in the Diocese of Hamilton. May their generous response to the call of God influence and inspire many others to do the same.
