From the Pastor’s Desk.....
Those who saw the Hamilton Spectator article about Bishop Tonnos several weeks ago know that he turned seventy-five on August 1st. That is the age at which bishops are to submit their resignation papers to the Holy Father, something that Bishop Tonnos has now done. He will continue to give pastoral leadership to Hamilton Diocese until such time as a new bishop is appointed. The task of finding and appointing a new bishop (a process largely overseen by the nuncio, the Pope’s representative in Canada) is now underway.
Bishop Anthony Tonnos is the longest-serving bishop of any diocese in Canada. Originally ordained as a priest of the diocese of St. Catharine’s in 1961, he was appointed our auxiliary bishop in 1983. In 1984, after the untimely death of Bishop Paul Reding, Bishop Tonnos was appointed “Ordinary” or Diocesan Bishop of Hamilton. For twenty-six years, he has given wise and effective spiritual leadership to our diocese - six counties and regions stretching from Oakville to Waterloo, Hamilton to Tobermory. We have been fortunate to enjoy such able and stable episcopal ministry.
In the coming months, let us pray that those entrusted with appointing the new Bishop of Hamilton may be open to God’s wisdom through the grace of the Holy Spirit.

R.C.I.A.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Are you interested in the Catholic Faith?
Perhaps you are.....
• A baptized Catholic with very little religious formation?
• A Christian who was baptized and raised in a different denomination?
• Someone who has never been baptized?
The R.C.I.A. is an exploration of the essentials of the Catholic faith in a series of weekly meetings running from October through April. It is an opportunity to ask those questions you’ve always had, and to explore your own faith and membership in the Church.
R.C.I.A. is not a course with papers and marks, nor is it an encounter session. Rather, it is a weekly gathering with like-minded inquirers, parishioners and parish staff; a place to learn more about God’s revelation in Jesus Christ and the life of the Church that Jesus founded.
For more information about this year’s R.C.I.A. program at St. Ann’s, please contact Father Dan or Father Mark at the parish office.
